Figs | Charlestown

Figs (by Todd English) is an upscale pizza restaurant with locations in Boston's Beacon Hill and Charlestown neighborhoods. I went into work for a couple of hours in the morning and stepped out around noon. Strolling down main street I ventured into historic Charlestown with its quaint brick sidewalks and tree lined streets. I gave my oldest best friend Jen a call on a whim - it was a work from home Friday for her and just like that I had myself a lunch companion. I started with a glass of Prosecco ($9).
I'm enamored with that glass sans stem and a generous pour of bubbly to boot. It
 was crisp, refreshing and comped. How nice! That made my afternoon!

The ambiance at Figs is simple and inviting. Chestnut hardwood floors and rust colored walls meet cozy booths in window nooks that overlook main street and a tiny bar that seats five.
The specialty pizzas at Figs are unique - from the free-form shape, to the paper thin, delicately crispy crust, to the remarkable combinations of fresh ingredients. Smaller portions of their pizzas are available on the lunch menu. 
I ordered the Bianco ($8.50) made with Mozzarella, sweet onions, fresh tomatoes and arugula, topped with olive oil and balsamic. 
Served on that pizza is more like the entire length of the arugula plant! The abundance of leafy greens are super fresh, however, a full salad on a pizza proves a tad unmanageable to eat. 
Jen had a lovely Greek Salad ($7.50) topped with chicken.
In the past for dinner I've enjoyed the Fig & Prosciutto ($18.50) - a match made in heaven of sweet fig jam, salty prosciutto and creamy sharp gorgonzola. To-go box in hand, I hugged Jen goodbye and continued down main street over the Charlestown bridge and home to the North End. It was time to pack for a visit to Portsmouth, New Hampshire!

  1. I love figs...and I love Todd English. Doesn't it seem like he has restaurants popping up all over the place all of a sudden? Or is it just my imagination?

  5. Never been to Figs, but I went to Olives last year in Charlestown- DELISH. Cool stemless champagne flutes!

  7. I'm jealous you're going to Portsmouth. I like to eat my feelings at The Friendly Toast, so stop in there for me.

    The thing about Todd English's restaurants are that he seems to take them WAY too seriously. Like the whole no website thing you know? The food is good, but not as good as he seems to think. I mean, he's no Guy Fieri am I right? Am I right?!

  10. hahahah melissa, your comment cracks me up: eating feelings at the friendly toast. there are numerous places in portsmouth to eat your feelings ha.

    kristen, i wonder where these stemless champagne glasses can be found! i bet todd would never tell us.

  12. PIZZA! PIZZA! PIZZA! It's the perfect food! No website, what's up with that? =)

    Maybe that's his (T.E.) way of of being "above it all." Blah! LOL.

    I still like his style. The food looks fab. No stemmed glasses are cool.
