It was a lazy Sunday morning on the Cape. The weather was unexpectedly cool and cloudy. I drank some coffee. We read magazines in our PJs. I painted my nails (orange!) Tray woke up and inquired about breakfast. Apparently, he knows how to poach eggs. And we just so happened to have a fridge full of crab meat. (Ya don't say!) A trip to the store for hollandaise sauce packets later and brunch was conceptualized. Leah set the table. I toasted and buttered the English Muffins. Mom formed the crab cakes. Tray took over with the hollandaise sauce preparation and the poached eggs. Adam - well I'm not to sure what Adam did. I think he took a nap in the hammock. I made a pitcher of mimosas. This was probably one of the best homemade breakfasts I've had to date. Tray did an excellent job poaching the eggs. Those sweet lumps of fresh crab meat topped with a runny poached egg were coated in a velvet bath of savory hollandaise, it all came together perfectly. You couldn't order a better benedict out to brunch if you tired. In case you were wondering, that was the last of the crab meat!
We had not seen my Dad all weekend so we headed over to spend the afternoon with him and the puppies. Remember these guys?! They've sure grown a bit but are still some of the most adorable bundles of joy you will ever play with. My Dad has 4 left for sale. We took 2 of them and Jenny (Mom) on a walk.
Buddies! They are so cute and happy. When we eventually made it off Cape we were hungry once again. An impromptu trip to the Friendly's just over the bridge in Sagamore occurred. When is the last time you visited a Friendly's?
I stuck with the classics all around. Grilled Cheese and Fries ($4.99) and a Peanut Butter Cup Sundae (5.99)!!Gooey orange American cheese melted on grilled sourdough bread followed by luscious swirls of peanut butter and hot fudge draped over vanilla ice cream and airy whipped cream. The sundae was finished off with chocolate sprinkles, a maraschino cherry and of course a Reeses PB Cup. Such good meals. Such a good weekend. Thank gosh I wrapped it up in three posts.

Those eggs are most definitely perfectly poached! Wow, what a breakfast. I think I've had crab cake benedict at Crabapples on the Cape, coincidentally.

Eggs bennedict is one of my favorite breakfasts... I have had crab cake bennedict once prior to this at a little place when I lived in Dover, NH. They just didn't compare to the ones we had this day.. I want them again, right now!

Hi I'm Tray! I didn't know poaching eggs was a feared egg-cooking method, haha but there are three secrets I employ - 1: use a plate or shallow bowl to gently slide the eggs into the ALMOST fully boiling water (hardcore boiling is too abrasive!). 2: poor about 3 or 4 tablespoons of white vinegar in the water (it helps keep the egg together somehow - chemistry?). 3: use some sort of utensil to break away the egg flotsam and remove from water! Give it a whirl :)

Nice job Tray! Very impressive poached eggs. Wow, that looks amazing... I went into the Friendly's at the Natick Mall a couple weeks ago but it was too crowded- It's been forever since I've eaten there!
